1. List the 4 steps in the design process and explain what occurs during each phase. The four steps in the design process are preparation, development, testing, and delivery . During preparation the designer either receives a brief from the client or puts together the brief based on the client's input. In this step the designer does visual and technical research and sketches ideas. During the development step of the process, the designer develop ideas, brainstorms, and initiates some rough planning. The designer also negotiates ideas with the client, presents some ideas, creates a storyboard, and creates a working prototype. In the next step the designer tests the product by carrying out technical checking and conducting an audience testing. He also adds any finishing touches to the design. Why is it important to have rules in design? Design rules are important because they provide a structural guideline for designers to follow and, at the same time, to break. Without rules in design, a piece of artwork could become chaotic because there is no structure to it, causing the viewer to become confused. In the author's opinion, what makes a great designer? In Angie Taylor's opinion, "a lucky combination of motivation, inspiration, hard work, confidence, luck, self-belief, assertiveness, diplomacy, imagination, logic, practicality, and passion" is essential to becoming a great designer. She also says that a good designer must be open to ideas, rules, other people, and the world around him or her. Good designers must also "learn to be observant". Multimedia is any combination of text, graphics, video, audio, and animation in a distributable format that consumers can interact with on a digital device. In the commercial, video is used to show Melissa throughout her adventure. Audio was used when Melissa was talking, and it was used to add sound effects. Animation was used to add things like the whale, the tree falling, Melissa falling off the ice cap, and the rhino. Text was used on the banners and flags to promote each cause Melissa is protecting, and text was also used to advertise the car towards the end of the commercial. On the website, text is used to give instructions and to explain things in each section. Audio is used for the background music which enhances the website.
